Abstract

This research investigated the effects of hyperoside on the reproductive function of oligoasthenospermia mice induced by adenine. Fifty mice were randomly divided into five groups: control group, model group, hyperoside low-dose group, hyperoside medium-dose group, and hyperoside high-dose group. Mice in the model group and three hyperoside groups received intragastric administration with adenine (200 mg/kg) once every 3 days for eight times to induce oligoasthenospermia. At the same time, mice from the hyperoside low-dose group, hyperoside medium-dose group, and hyperoside high-dose group received intragastric administration of hyperoside respectively at 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg of body weight once daily for consecutive 28 days. The results showed that hyperoside not only improved sperm quality, but also increased accessory sex gland index, testis index, and the concentration of testosterone and luteinizing hormone in plasma of treated mice in a dose-dependent manner. These results indicated that hyperoside might have the potential of improving the reproductive function of oligoasthenospermia. Graphical Abstract: [Figure not available: see fulltext.]
