Abstract

Tiger prawns are a leading commodity whose development is not like vannamei shrimp, which have experienced a rapid increase. One of the obstacles in raising tiger prawns in ponds is the lack of superior seeds that are disease resistant and ready to be stocked in the ponds. However, to overcome the problem of superior seeds, it is better if the shrimp rearing using a juvenile size because the seeds are more resistant to environmental conditions in the pond. This study aims to determine the optimal stocking density of tiger prawns for juvenile production in Jabon District, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java. This study used a hapa measuring 3x4 m2 and a height of 1.2 m. Laying hapa at a distance of 10 cm above the bottom of the pond land. Tiger shrimp seeds (PL 12) were used in this study with treatment A. 1,000 ind./m2; B. 1,500 ind./m2; C. 2,000 ind./m2; and D. 2,500 ind./m2. The results showed that the juvenile production of tiger prawns treatment A resulted in a survival rate of 76.7 ? 2.77%, significantly different (P <0.05) compared to B (66.4 ? 2.37%), C (63.2 ? 3.04%), and D (54.4 ? 7.45%). Treatments B and C were significantly different (P <0.05) from D. The weight gain of tiger prawns for each treatment was A (0.351 g/ind.); B (0.348 g/ind.); C (0.345 g/ind.) and D (0.331 g/ind.).
