Abstract

Artisanal Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) in Desa Pasar Terusan, Kecamatan Muara Bulian has been ongoing since the 1980's. The mining activities that took place in DAS Batanghari lead to environmental degradation and health problems for the workers and people residing the mining areas. This research aims to find out the factors influencing the mercury exposure in gold miners. Methode we conducted a Cross-Sectional study, with a quantitative and observational analytical approaches that aiming to determine the relationship the factors that influencing mercury levels in urin and hair of the miners. Interviews were conducted to determine the characteristics of respondents. Urine and hair sampling is conducted on miners who are directly and indirectly exposed to mercury. Total Mercury in urine and hair (T-Hg) is examined using CV-AAS method and Creatinine Urine (U-Creatinine) is analysed using Jaffe Reaction method. Mine workers with direct contact to the mercury found having average mercury levels in the hair of 3.57± 4.134 µg/g and urine 24.08± 46.322 μgHg /g-creatinine. While urine level in non-amalgamation workers known to 19.72± 38.542 μgHg/ g creatinine and hair 6.37±11.951 µg
