Abstract
The purpose of this study is to describe the findings of a five-tier diagnostic test instrument's validity and reliability test on acid-base content, as well as to assess the level of misconceptions faced by XI IPA students. at SMA Negeri 11 Medan on the concept of the material. This is a quantitative study that makes use of ADDIE development. In this study, data was gathered through interviews, questionnaires, and test instruments. The stages of the research started from analysis (data collection), product design and design, development (small scale), implementation (wide scale) and evaluation (interpretation of students' misconceptions) using a five-level diagnostic test instrument. The results of the validation analysis showed that 17 questions were declared valid and 13 questions were invalid. According to the reliability test results, the five-tier diagnostic test instrument has a high reliability of 0.75. These results indicate that the level of misconceptions in class XI IPA 2 SMA Negeri 11 Medan on acid-base material belongs to the low category, which is 22%. The notion of acidity and alkalinity had the largest rate of misconceptions among students (34.17%). The lowest proportion experienced was in the students' acid-base theory concept of 6.88%.
