Abstract

This article presents the main features of the phenomenon of disinformation and its current most common manifestation, fake news, using bibliographic and document research as research methods. The aim is to understand how and why the proliferation of false information in the virtual environment happens, trying to understand, also, how well-organized groups equipped with algorithmic and robotic technologies have spread misinformation. The article also aims to follow the main programs and projects that are being developed worldwide by NGOs and by news distribution platforms that aim to combat this social phenomenon.
