Abstract

One of the marine potencies in WPPNRI 711 is the fishery sector and the availability of fish resources which is relatively high, both in terms of quantity and diversity. One of the fish types with high quantity in this area is the pelagic fish group. This research aims to analyze the economic management of small pelagic capture fisheries in order to maintain its sustainability. The research result indicates that the average sustainable production of the small pelagic for 11 years (2005-2016) observation was 12,506.81 tons/year. Depreciation value has reduced the rent value received by fishermen. With the method of the present value, the revenues from the market at discount rate of 15% should be Rp 225.54 billion. However, due to depreciation, the amount received just Rp 208.49 billion only. For the optimal and sustainable fisheries management, the effort level for small pelagi c capture should be 5,040 ships unit/year at discount rate of 15%. This indicates that economic management rate of small pelagic capture fisheries in WPPNRI 711 can be increased by 11.58% to reach the optimum rate of 13.954 tons/year.
