Abstract

The paper gives an overview of the increasing automatization of road transportation and illustrates the direction of the development by presenting some examples. The more developed assistants help the driving task based on more and more sensors and algorithms with increasing complexity. Several assists are available, which is able to serve only by having a map as support. Nowadays these map databases can be provided by numerous surveying technologies – the paper brings a short summary.
