Abstract
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a disease with a high prevalence in males, and there are new surgical techniques developed in recent years that modify the anesthetic management of these patients. The use of saline solution, both in bipolar transurethral prostate resection (TUR) and laser techniques, reduces the risk of classic post-TUR syndrome and replaces it with a new post-TUR syndrome characterized by volume overload and hyperchloremic acidosis. Intradural anesthesia remains our technique of choice due to its efficiency and effectiveness profile.
