Abstract

Specific research needs for the different areas covered in this document are presented at the end of each chapter. A few research needs were identified that apply to the entire area of agricultural respiratory disease. These focus primarily on the identification and prevention of respiratory disease in the agricultural workplace. They include: 1. High quality educational materials need to be developed and widely disseminated to health care professionals regarding definition, diagnosis, and prevention of agricultural respiratory disease. 2. Surveillance systems need to be developed for assessment of trends in agricultural respiratory diseases and common agricultural exposures. 3. Priority needs to be given to the development of primary prevention strategies to control exposures to agents causing agricultural respiratory diseases.
