Abstract

France has maintained an economic and cultural stranglehold on its former colonies, backed by a significant military presence. Far from being decolonised, the former French colonies have experienced an increase in French economic entrenchment in the post-independence era. In important ways the mechanisms of French neo-colonialism are different from those of the British. © 1976, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
