Abstract

This paper seeks to find out the forms of past craft art, which was the initial period of human civilization, although in a period of backwardness, prehistoric Indonesian humans turned out to have intelligence and skills in producing visual culture, one of which is craft art. Visual culture in the form of craft art at that time, had functions related to spiritual and secular functions. The problem of this paper is focused on the form of craft art that existed in prehistoric times both in stone, clay and metal media. The method used to obtain this writing material is through a literature study, both written sources and documentation of cultural artifacts, data analysis so as to provide the conclusion that the fine arts of craft found in various kinds of materials, including stone, metal, clay, bones and cannot be separated from beliefs and way of life of the people.
