Regulation of ultrasound in nursing consultations: perspectives of obstetric nursing

Abstract

Objective: To understand the view of obstetric nurses on Resolution # 627/2020 of the Federal Nursing Council (Cofen) that regulates obstetric ultrasound in nursing consultations. Methods: This qualitative research with a methodological approach was carried out with 10 obstetric nurses working in a philanthropic maternity hospital (Belo Horizonte, MG), with exclusive care by the Unified Health System (SUS). Data collection was carried out in December 2021 through an interview guided by a semi-structured script. Data analysis took place through Bardin’s thematic content analysis using the Atlas.ti software. Results: Cofen Resolution # 627/2020 arose after a demand from care practice meeting an advancement in the profession. The regulation for the use of the ultrasound tool instituted in the obstetric nursing consultation gave legitimacy to this new practice of obstetric nurses. This impacted the qualification of care in obstetric nursing consultations, resulting in greater maternal and fetal safety. Conclusion: Cofen Resolution # 627/2020 favored the professional autonomy of obstetric nurses and promoted a restructuring in the obstetric care model, strengthening the public policies of comprehensiveness and universality and qualifying assistance.
