Abstract

The food supply chain encompasses all the stages that food products pass through during their movement from the producer to customers and consumers. It is influenced by several specific factors that must be taken into account. Such are, for example, requirements related to the specifics of the products, legislation, food safety, etc. Information technologies are successfully applied in the food supply chain. Blockchain is a new concept that has attracted increasing attention in recent years. Blockchain is a decentralized and distributed record of transactions that are stored in blocks and linked sequentially in a chain. It represents an innovative way of managing and exchanging data and information. Blockchain technology can improve the supply chain in the food industry in a variety of ways, providing greater transparency, security, and efficiency. Therefore, this paper aims to present in detail Blockchain technology and how it would help the supply chain in food enterprises.
