Pure ZnS nanoparticles, MnS/ZnS and PbS/ZnS core/shell nanostructures are prepared by simple chemical method. UV studies reveal that the optical band gap increases for the samples in which the core with a small band gap is surrounded by the shell having a large band gap. There is a blue shift observed in all the samples. Comparing with the pure ZnS nanoparticles, MnS/ZnS and PbS/ZnS core/shell nanostructures, PL studies show that there is slightly enhanced blue emission and an additional green emission.
