Abstract

Introduction: Dysmenorrhea is a condition of very strong pain in the lower abdomen, but can spread to the lower back, pelvis, waist, upper thighs to the calves, this occurs when women are menstruating (Febriyanti et al., 2021). The aromas of lemon (citrus) and lavender (lavandula agustifolia) are commonly used in complementary aromatherapy therapy. The positive effects of lemon and lavender aromatherapy have been proven to reduce pain and provide a relaxing or calming effect (Nurjanah, 2023; Dewi, 2013). Objective: Conducting a literature analysis regarding the effect of providing lemon and lavender aromatherapy on reducing the intensity of dysmenorrhoea pain in adolescents. Method: This article uses a literature review method based on the latest research articles published from 2019 to 2023. The online database sources used include PubMed and Google Scholar, which come from Indonesia and other countries that use English according to the search topic. Result: Searching research articles found 10 articles based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The articles obtained included 1 international article and 9 national articles. From the articles reviewed, it can be seen that giving lemon and lavender aromatherapy is effective in reducing the intensity of dysmenorrhea pain in adolescents. Conclusion: From the results of the literature review, it can be concluded that the role of lemon aromatherapy and lavender aromatherapy can influence the reduction of dysmenorrhoea pain in adolescents. The majority of adolescents who experience dysmenorrhea feel a reduction in pain after being given lemon aromatherapy or lavender aromatherapy.
