Abstract
Morbidity and mortality conferences (M&M) are defined as regular, interdisciplinary case conferences of preventable and/or adverse events. The goal of an M&M conference is to ensure a timely and continuous improvement process of treatment quality and patient safety, as well as to strengthen collaboration and safety culture. This article offers practical tips and tricks for the preparation, implementation and follow-up of M&M conferences, based on our experience from the Department of Obstetrics at the University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland. The M&M conference is one of many possible measures that significantly contribute to improving collaboration, treatment quality, patient safety and safety culture, as well as to expanding relevant knowledge and action competencies.
