Abstract

A phaseless setup for a submillimetre-wave frequency scanning-based radar system is presented. The phase retrieval setup is implemented by modifying a previous implementation at microwave frequencies. In the new setup, the number of involved components (e.g. directional couplers, power combiners etc.) is reduced by including a time-domain reference signal by means of direct radiation, yielding a low-cost submillimetre-wave radar system that avoids the need for phase shifters. Several measurement examples are shown to illustrate the performance of the system.
