Latex allergy is an important health problem in selected population groups, called risk groups. Early identification and establishment of preventive measures and treatment are essential in order to ensure correct management of patients who are allergic to latex, which is ubiquitous in the health care setting. This article reviews several aspects of this pathology, from prevalence, risk groups, latex allergens, clinical manifestations, cross-reactivity, latex-fruit syndrome, to diagnosis, prevention and treatment approach.
