Abstract

A case of pyoderma gangrenosum is described, affecting the foot of a diabetic patient. Initial appearances were suggestive of bacterial secondary infection complicating athlete's foot. Within three days of oral corticosteroid therapy the lesion had virtually healed. The diagnosis of pyoderma gangrenosum should be considered in diabetic patients with atypical ulcerative skin lesions, particularly those sterile on culture. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
