Abstract

Eston is the second lentil (Lens culinaris Medik.) cultivar licensed in Canada. It is the result of line selection from U.S. Department of Agriculture Plant Introduction 179307 from Turkey. Eston is a small-seeded (Persian type) lentil with yellow cotyledons. It is higher yielding than either Commercial Chilean or the Laird cultivar. Eston is shorter than Commercial Chilean or Laird and maturity is similar to Commercial Chilean, but earlier than Laird.
