Abstract
The World Health Organization states high blood pressure is the most important cause of illness and death that can be prevented worldwide. Efforts to prevent hypertension can be done pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically. Non-pharmacological treatment by utilizing natural plants, one of which is celery. Celery contains astrigents and flavonoids which act as diuretics to reduce blood pressure. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of celery stew on blood pressure reduction in patients with hypertension. This type of research is Quasi Experiment with the method of pretest-posttest approach to 20 people selected by purposive sample. Subjects were divided into 2 groups, control and intervention groups. The intervention group was given 200 cc of celery stew for 5 days. Data analysis used mean blood pressure before and after using t-test. The results showed mean blood pressure before 148/91 mmHg and mean after 147/88 mmHg. In addition, there was an effect of celery stew on blood pressure reduction (p value 0.001 p in systole and <0.001 in diastole). The hexane, methanol and ethanol extracts can help lower blood pressure. People with hypertension can consume celery stew to neutralize blood pressure.Keywords: Celery Leaf Stew, Blood Pressure
