Abstract

This paper regards high strength steel box-section column-to-beam connections with thick exterior diaphragms whose depth is smaller than that of ordinary one. First, evaluation methods of elastic stiffness and yield strength of beam end connections using each of concrete filled tube columns or hollow columns are proposed. Second, loading test and finite element analysis of cruciform specimen are conducted to verify the validity of the evaluation methods. As a result, it is confirmed that connections keep elastic and beams yield mainly until the ultimate state if yield strength of connections exceed full-plastic strength of beams.
