Abstract

In this article the author queries what he, as a college teacher of graduate students in the field of television studies, should emphasize to students and colleagues as the essential aspects of the discipline. Focusing on his his curriculum planning and teaching methods, the author outlines the interdisciplinary approach he uses in his television studies seminar, in which he highlights the relationship between television theory and criticism by engaging students in group projects and independent research. The author's use of several books in his course are also mentioned including "Channels of Discourse, Reassembled: Television and Contemporary Criticism" edited by Robert C. Allen and "Television: Technology and Cultural Form" by Raymond Williams.
