Abstract

We investigated the instability properties of ring-profile vortex solitons supported by Bessel lattices in defocusing cubic media. The instability domain of vortex solitons can be significantly suppressed by selecting the higher-order Bessel lattice as a linear refractive index guidance. The finding provides an effective way for the realization of stable vortex solitons with higher topological charges (e.g. m = 5) by relatively shallow lattices. © IOP Publishing Ltd and Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft.
