Abstract
The aim of this paper is to define the new professional profile of secondary school teachers. One of the weaknesses of the Spanish educational system in this respect is that the recent legislative frame has not provided a new model of initial training for the secondary school teachers. The debate on professional competences is, without doubt, in the foundation of the proposal of the specific competences needed by the future teacher. The argument of the analysis underlines the relevance of the professional training in the process of acquisition and development of the professional competences. The article positively assesses the fact that the Master course provided for the initial training of secondary teachers has included in its design this new professional profile.
