Abstract

Some essential general information is presented on the systematics of the groups of arthropods considered in this volume. Distinguishing characteristics separating Chelicerata, Crustacea and Insecta are outlined, and the further classification of each of these groups is briefly discussed, with special reference to the venomous taxa. A short section on the identification and preservation of arthropods is followed by a list of general treatises, bibliographies and catalogues from which further information on morphology, biology and taxonomy can be obtained.
