Abstract

Dynamic climatological studies of some features of the Japanese climate are the main subjects in this paper, and the secular climatic trend and its mechanism are additionally investigated matters. Dynamic climatological analysis has not yet any firmly established method, and various methods have been proposed so far. The recent developments in the theoretical and analytical studies of the general circulation have not gained to bring about similar progresses in climatology. The author intends to apply some fundamental theories of meteorology (Rossby 1939, Bolin 1950, Rex 1950) to the dynamic climatological analysis of the relation between the general circulation and the regional climate, using a series of hemispheric weather map analyses. Hemispheric circulation phenomena are reviewed, but detailed analyses are restricted to Japan and its vicinity for reasons of analytical limitation. The dynamic climatological analyses on the cold spell of winter and the Baiu of early summer have been found to contribute to establishing a new field of climatology. © 1967, Japan Meteorological Agency.
