Abstract
Background: Antepartum hemorrhage has always been one of the most feared complications in obstetrics. The present study was conducted to assess maternal and fetal outcome in patients with antepartum hemorrhage. Materials & Methods: The present study was conducted on 94 cases of antepartum hemorrhage. In all cases, maternal and fetal outcome was recorded. Results: Common type of APH was abruptio placentae seen in 52, placenta Praevia in 30 and undetermined in 12 patients. Out of 52 cases of abruptio placentae, 20 were live birth, 15 were still birth, 12 were IUD and 5 were NICU death. IIN PP, 11 were live birth, 10 were still birth, 6 were IUD and 3 were NICU death. In undetermined, 5 were live birth, 3 were still birth, 2 were IUD and 2 were NICU death. Common cause of deaths in AP was sepsis in 14 and respiratory distress syndrome in 10. 32 in AP and 20 in PP had baby birth weight <2500 grams. 40 in AP and 22 in PP had cephalic lie of baby. 50% cases in AP, mode of delivery was emergency C/S, 55% in PP and 58% in undetermined. Most common complication in AP was anemia seen in 7 in AP, 5 in PP and 4 in undetermined. Maternal death was seen 5 in AP, 2 in PP and 1 in undetermined type. 26 patients in AP, 11 in PP and 5 in undetermined needed blood transfusion. The difference was significant (P< 0.05). Conclusion: Authors found that common reason of APH was abruptio placentae, placental previa and undetermined.
