Abstract

The second edition of this book maintains the same layout as the earlier edition with contents divided into sections on diseases caused by viruses; rickettsia and chlamydia; bacteria; fungi; protozoa; metazoan parasites; and diseases having miscellaneous and unknown causes. Each disease is considered under the following sub-headings:- definition which includes its importance; review of literature; occurrence; aetiology and pathogenesis; clinical signs and PM lesions; diagnosis; prevention and treatment; and references. The literature reviews have in most cases been revised and information is included on two more diseases, bluetongue and high mountain disease. Additional photographs have also been included to aid diagnosis and two new chapters on preconditioning cattle for the feedlot and the problem of pollution from cattle feedlot. For the review of the 1965 edition see V.B. 37, abst. 2965.
