Abstract

Two new one-dimensional coordination polymers [Ni(IHQS)(4,4'-bipy) 0.5(H2O)2]n (1) and [Cu(IHQS)(4,4'-bipy)0.5H2O]n (2) [IHQS = 7-iodo-8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid (Ferron); 4,4'-bipy = 4,4'-bipyridyl] were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. The crystal structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and further been, characterized by IR spectra and thermal gravimetric analysis. Compound 1 exhibits one dimensional infinite chain-like structure and compound 2 displays the one dimensional sheet-like framework, where the copper bichains are bridged by 4,4'-bipy ligands. Moreover, the two compounds show different magnetic properties because of their different crystal structures. © 2010 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA.
