Abstract
Community Based Tourism is tourism that supports social, cultural, economic and environmental benefits. In Bangsring Underwater Banyuwangi, this concept originated from conservation efforts by fishermen who care about their environment. This article aims to examine community participation in protecting the environment at Bangsing Underwater Tourism Attraction. The descriptive qualitative method is used to describe the relationship between the events or indications studied in a structured, factual and thorough manner. Data collection is done by observation, interview and collecting literature related to the topic to be analysed. The results showed that Bangsring Underwater Tourism Attraction has promising tourism potential to be developed and has also been supported by various adequate facilities to provide comfort to tourists during their visit. This tourist attraction is developed with the concept of Community Based Tourism by focusing on environmental conservation efforts. The form of participation that has been carried out by the community is Spontaneous Community Participation. This article contributes to the development of science and understanding the socio-cultural problems of the community in the development of tourism, especially the development of tourist attractions and as a study material for community-based tourism. The findings are expected to be a contribution to the community as potential owners, investors, and decision and policy makers.
