Abstract

It is shown that basic mechanisms of glow discharge, which are drift and diffusion of the ions and the electrons, volume ionization and recombination and secondary electron emission, are in principle sufficient to explain patterns on glow cathodes observed in recently published works, so there is no need to introduce special mechanisms to this end. © 2007 IOP Publishing Ltd.
