Abstract

This paper presents an experimental investigation of packing of quaternary mixtures of fibrous particles of the same diameter but different lengths. The results indicate that the packing density is heavily dependent on the fractional solid volumes and hence the size and shape distributions involved. The packing of fibrous particles appears to be dominated by the shape effect rather than the size effect, and can be satisfactorily predicted by the modified linear packing model.
