WHY WRITE THE HISTORY OF AL-ANDALUS? HISTORY, MEMORY AND TEMPORALITY IN MANAGING THE PAST

Abstract

This paper uses the case of al-Andalus to discuss the differences between history and memory and their projection in contemporary debates on politics and identity. Such a discussion also allows me to explore different ways of constructing temporality linked to distinct ways of managing the past.
