Abstract

Introduction: One of the problems with the family planning program in Indonesia is the high number of unmet need for family planning. On Sumatra Island, there are disparities in the unmet need for family planning between regions, where some provinces have high unmet need for family planning and others low. Objective: The aim of this research is to find out whether there is spatial autocorrelation based on the unmet need for family planning and to find hotspot areas on Sumatra Island in 2022. Method: This research is a quantitative research with an ecological study design. The unit of analysis in this research is the district/city, while the scope of the area analyzed includes 131 districts/cities on the Sumatra mainland island. Spatial autocorrelation test using the Moran Index and Local Indicator of Spatial Autocorrelation (LISA). Result: The results of this study show that there is a positive spatial autocorrelation of unmet need for family planning on Sumatra Island in 2022 (p value=0.001, I=0.646, E(I)=-0.008). This means that on Sumatra Island, the percentage of unmet need for family planning in one district/city area is related to the surrounding area, with a clustered pattern. The hotspot areas for unmet need for family planning on Sumatra Island in 2022 based on the cluster pattern formed are 27 districts/cities. Conclusion: Unmet need for family planning on Sumatra Island in 2022 forms a clustered pattern based on adjacent districts/cities and does not occur randomly. Hotspot areas are proposed as priorities in interventions to reduce the unmet need for family planning on Sumatra Island.
