Abstract

A survey of hydrothermal alteration in several geothermal systems recently explored by drilling is presented. Several factors that affect the formation of geothermal minerals are discussed, and examples of hydrothermal alteration in the active geothermal fields located in North America, the United States, Japan and Iceland are given. Possible avenues of future research in this field are outlined.
