The brazilian panorama of research on women's football (2013-2021)

Abstract

The purpose of this project was to map theses and dissertations whose main object of study was Women's Football, based on works found on the Theses and Dissertations Catalogue from CAPES' (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel) database, between 2013 and 2021. For this project, it was used the bibliographic research as a method. A total of 52 works were analyzed, of which 41 are dissertations and 11 are theses. Therefore, it was used the following descriptors: women's football/futsal, football for women, women in/and football. This research showed that: women are the main producers in research related to Women's Football and the number of orientations also carried out by women has been increasing over the years; a quantative increse in work productions always happens after a major international event, such as the Olympics and the Women's World Cup, which reinforces the importance of greater media coverage for Women's sport, since, most of the time, during the break between these competitions the numbers of productions do not keep progressing; as pointed out in other studies, the gender issue in Women's Football is still the central topic of discussion; Graduate Programs in the field of Physical Education mostly present an investigative tendency on the subject; that most research development and concentration are in the South-Southeast axis, which is assumed to be a reflection of how the sport has been developing localy. These results reinforce the importance of wide dissemination of the sport beyond official competitions, as well as the constancy of studies that aim to understand and promote Women's Football.
