Abstract

An automated grading machine is developed using image processing techniques and Lab view to classify areca nuts harvested and processed across various locations of Goa. The aim is to grade the areca nut based on its color and texture features into good and bad quality nuts. The system comprises of a conveyer unit, illumination and image acquisition unit. Image processing is done by Lab view on a PC and Sorting unit. The various features of the areca nut are extracted using a web camera and the captured image is compared with the reference images using vision module of Lab view. After the required image processing is done, a signal is sent to the interface circuit and an appropriate actuator driven by a stepper motor is actuated. The main purpose of this project is to reduce inconsistencies in manual grading of areca nuts. Further scope of work is also mentioned in conclusion part.
