Abstract

Karawang Regency was the largest producer of frog meat for Fejervarya cancrivora or Paddy Field Frog in West Java. To determine the population dynamics of Paddy Field Frog in the wild, two surveys were carried out in Karawang Timur. First survey was conducted on May 16-27th, 2016 and second survey on March 16-29th, 2018. Sampling was carried out using transect method with a total transect length was 3000 meters in similar sites. The first survey divided the paddy fields into dry and wet sites. However, during second survey, the paddy fields are mostly wet with average paddy crop height of 30 cm. The results of interviews with frog hunters were not much done in the March 2018 survey, because all the frog hunters interviewed in May 2016 were no longer hunting frogs. The impact of the reduction in hunting of the Paddy Field Frog in the Karawang area can be seen from the results of the population survey in March 2018; increasing on the density of adult individuals in the area of 5m2 in most transect areas when compared with the May 2016 survey.
