Abstract

The World Health Organization has classified the threat of antimicrobial resistance as one of the major threats to human health worldwide. New strategies and ideas are of interest to prevent spread and to control antibiotic‐resistant bacteria. Currently cold atmospheric plasma and the photodynamic principle using photoantimicrobials can be mentioned as two new innovative state of the art techniques for successful eradication of bacteria. Here in this review an update is given about the current status of the photodynamic principle and new developments of photoantimicrobials.
