Abstract

The problem of specifying Weibull distribution parameters for generating a diameter distribution with a desired quadratic mean is addressed. This quadratic mean is expressed as a function of a, b, and c, the location, scale, and shape parameters of the distribution, respectively. This relationship may be used to obtain either a, b, or c, given a desired quadratic mean diameter and values for the remaining two parameters. The problem of obtaining c values necessitates an iterative approach and methodology is developed for solutions on a desk calculator and a computer. The methodology facilitates the use of this convenient distribution in forest growth simulation studies. Forest Sci. 21:290-292.
