Abstract
Electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS), also known as vapes, mods, or e-cigarettes, have become popular over the years. They have tapped into a billion dollar industry, and appear to be staying for good in an ever increasing market. Once touted as a tobacco cessation tool, ENDS have created a sub-niche with many flavors, customizations, and lobbying groups. ENDS, in users eyes, do not hold the stigma associated with combustible tobacco cigarettes. They are perceived as a socially acceptable, healthier alternative that lacks the health detriments of traditional tobacco products. Their target market is not only adults, but also minors, with common flavors such as bubble gum, vanilla, and watermelon. Surveys of young teens have shown that the percentage of minors using ENDS is growing, year over year. The ENDS products themselves also offer different customizations, ranging from longer lasting batteries to larger reservoirs. In regards to regulation, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently extended its authority over tobacco products to include ENDS. One such change brought on by the FDA are box labels to warn of nicotine addiction on ENDS products, similar to their combustible counterparts.
