Abstract
The article focuses on bilateral investment treaty lawsuits filed by several foreign investors against Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Vanessa Ventures Ltd. claimed that the president cancelled its concession in an alleged underdeveloped gold mine in the country. Chavez selected Ronald Goodman, a partner with law firm Winston & Strawn, to represent Venezuela on the case. Vestey Group sued the president for expropriation because he allowed squatters to work on its cattle ranch.
