Abstract

Euphemism, as a common linguistic phenomenon in social communication, has being shining its unique lights to smoothen the effectiveness of people's social communications. In this paper, the author will give a detailed explanation about the euphemisms in British TV drama Downton Abbey from the perspective of word meaning in semantics, thus showing the importance of proper using of euphemism in English.
