Abstract

This paper focuses on the used of software design patterns to assist in the design and development of distributed control software. In particular, the Model-View-Controller (MVC) framework is used to develop IEC 61499 function block applications. In order to test this approach, a simple example of a distributed control application is implemented on a Java-based embedded control platform.
