Abstract

Acanthocephalus lucidus Van Cleave, an amphibian acanthocephalan, was found in the intestine of the rainbow trout Salmo gairdneri cultured at the Oizumi Hatchery of Tokyo University of Fisheries, Yamaoashi Prefecture. This is the first record of this parasite from fish. The route of infection is unknown, but the rainbow trout may have been infected with A. lucidus by ingestion of the isopod, Asellus hilgendorfi, or frogs. Morphologically, this species is characterized by the backward increase in the hook length and the elongated cement glands. © 1981, The Japanese Society of Fisheries Science. All rights reserved.
