Abstract

The author discusses the mechanical properties and weldability of structural steels with reference to BS 4360 and BS 5135. In summary, although potential cracking problems do exist when welding structural steels, their occurrence can readily be prevented by proper attention to steel selection, joint design and welding procedure. The manner of doing this is prescribed in BS 5135.
