Abstract
Samples of seven Trichodesmium blooms were made in the Bay of La Paz between 2005 and 2011. Trichodesmium erythraeum and T. thiebautii were the responsible species; is last species is recorded for the first time in the Gulf of California. Blooms of T. erythraeum presented concentrations between 0.75 and 4.5 × 106 cells L – 1 while Trichodesmium thiebautii reached densities between 1.86 and 2.34 × 106 cells L – 1. The blooms occurred within a temperature range of 20 and 30 ° C and did not cause any negative effect on the marine biota of area.
