Abstract

Computed Tomography (CT) is a radiographic method that provides an ideal examination technique whenever the primary goal is to locate and size planar and volumetric detail in three dimensions. CT systems generally obtain thousands of measurements simultaneously, without special programming while detecting flaws and defects. This technology was introduced sometime in 1972 for neurological applications. Since then, CT has been extended beyond medical to industrial applications. In this article, an overview of the technology as well as a review of existing and new ASTM standards on the subject are presented.
