Abstract

The last decade has seen an explosion of interest in new classes of non-coding RNA. While some are now firmly established as new categories of legitimate functional RNAs, the purpose and even existence of others remain to be solidified. Here, we discuss the challenges associated with discovery and characterization of non-traditional categories of non-coding RNA. © The Author 2009. Published by Oxford University Press.
